2001: A Space Odyssey

Arthur C Clarke has died, age 90. I’m deeply saddened.

He was my favourite author, able to impart a sense of wonder like no other. With him I explored the darkened interior of the alien, unknowable Rama; travelled through the last city of mankind, Diaspora; welcomed the vistors as humanity neared the end of its childhood… And more. And on, and on.

Perhaps inevitably, 2001: A Space Odyssey remains my favourite film of all time. In 1976, Marvel released a belated comics adaptation of the film, written and drawn by Jack Kirby. It’s an oversize, Treasury treat.

Clarke and Kirby together? True believers rejoice!

Rest easy, Arthur. You deserve it.
