In the early 1970s romance was still seen as a potential money-spinner for all publishers. DC had half a dozen titles, Marvel a couple, and as can be seen here, Charlton was putting them out in vast quantities. Within a few years, however, the genre had breathed its last. While trends come and go, and it’s still possible to pick up war, comedy, or mystery titles, I seriously doubt we’ll ever see the return of romance. And that’s a shame.
