Action Comics #456, February 1976

Obviously Jaws was the big hit film of 1975, so DC went for the quick cash-in cover seen here. While one can’t be sure, of course, I’d suspect too that artist Mike Grell was aiming to attract a readership somewhat beyond that usually associated with Superman. That’s a rather lovingly rendered posterior Kal-El is sporting there! Bravo to the man for attempting something different, I say.

Let’s see DC try this one as a limited edition statue…
