Young Love #125, May 1977

Here it is, pretty much the penultimate romance comic — there was only one more issue after this, and then DC bid a fond farewell to the genre for good. Inside there’s some nice Alex Toth art in a reprint of the multi-part “20 Miles to Heartbreak” tale that ran across a couple titles a few years earlier.

What makes this especially interesting is that the cover artist is none other than Walt Simonson! I don’t know if Simonson did any other romance covers, but I’m not aware of them if he did. This was around the time he was drawing Hercules Unbound for DC and Battlestar Galactica for Marvel, so this is a nice change of pace. Dinosaur signature all present and correct as well. Lovely.
