Action Comics #424, June 1973

Lets have a gorilla cover, for no other reason than I love them! This is a fairly late example of the genre, coming from 1973, but is, as you might expect, from the stable of editor Julius Schwartz — a man convinced that the appearance of a gorilla on a comic’s cover increased sales dramatically.

Anyway, this is none other than the poster child for intelligence in gorillas: Grodd. Originally a member of the Flash’s Rogues’ Gallery, here we see him taking a rare guest spot in another hero’s comic. It wouldn’t be long before Grodd became a member of the Secret Society of Super-Villains (now there’s a book I need to spotlight one of these days!), and was on the verge of a solo book of his very own.
