For no other reason than the fact that I love it to bits, here’s the cover to Jack Kirby’s peculiar magazine experiment from 1971. In the Days of the Mob, as its name suggests, is all about crime and punishment during the Prohibition era of the 1920s and 30s. Al Capone looms large. Though the mag — along with its sister, Spirit World — was a failure, it nonetheless contains some of Kirby’s finest ever art. The King was probably at the pinnacle of his game in 1971 with these mags, the Fourth World, and a whole new vista of opportunity available to him away from Marvel.

This really is wonderful stuff, well worth tracking down. Where else are you gonna get a giant ‘Wanted’ poster of John Dillinger?
