Superman #121

Superman #121, May 1958

So, Lois has finally made her choice of hunk and swanned off to the 22nd century to be with Future Man. Future Man is not actually a great deal to write home about: he wears a fake beard in order to protect his secret identity — one which has very visible hooks that fit over his ears! He has a nice line in chat, though, and quickly persuades Lois to marry him. As Stephen Stills so memorably opined: if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.

It’s okay though. This is Lois we’re talking about., she changes her mind pretty darn quickly and is soon lusting after the Man of Steel again.

The lead story has some lovely art by Kurt Schaffenberger, and, with its clear focus on Lois, was probably originally intended for Lois’s solo comic, which launched the previous month. With Mort Weisinger handling all the Superman family titles he was able to chop and change strips between the various titles in order to fill any gaps in the schedule.
