Curt Swan. A name almost synonymous with Superman. Swan drew the vast majority of the Man of Steel’s solo adventures from the 1950s to the mid-80s. From Superman #245, here is a character style sheet that Swan drew as a guide to other artists drawing Superman in the early-70s. You’ll note that at this time Superman was depicted as being perhaps a little older than you might expect. Mort Weisinger, Superman editor of the 1960s, assumed Superman to be around 34. Julie Schwartz, when he took over the editorial reigns in 1971 ‘re-imagined’ Superman as a perenial 29. I think this style sheet reflects the former. Lovely stuff, nevertheless.
