Super play suits

This ad from 1955 provides a much needed touch of sartorial elegance to the junior would-be super-hero in the family. What’s especially nice to see is that the little-uns are given a ready made, just plausible, argument to throw at mom when she says this is a complete waste of money: “it’s made to stand up under lots of hard play — it’s made of fine washable rayon gabardine.” I wonder how successful young Johnny was with that line?

You’ll note that, as this was a few years prior to the arrival of Kara Zor-El, little girls were expected to dress up as ‘Superman’… in a skirt.
