Swords of the Swashbucklers

Bill Mantlo and Jackson Guice created Swords of the Swashbucklers back in the mid-80s, not long after their run on Marvel’s Micronauts came to an end. The pair enjoyed working together and so came up with Swords… to continue their partnership. Originally appearing as a Marvel Graphic Novel, Swords spun off into its own series that ran for twelve issues. Succeeding Guice as artists were Geoff Isherwood and Colleen Doran.

As is well known, Mantlo was involved in a severe accident that left him permanently brain-damaged. As the costs of his ongoing care continue to spiral, both his family and some of the comics community attempt to help generate the cash Mantlo so desparately needs. To this end, Guice, Isherwood and Doran have waived their claim to any royalty payments on the use of their artwork, and the whole series is now available for downloading — for FREE — at the Wowio site:

SWASHBUCKLERS

All monies generated (Wowio is advertising supported) will go directly to the Mantlo family.

It’s a very worthwhile cause and one worth supporting — and Hey, it’s FREE comics, what’s not to love?!

If you’re not in the US, you’re not allowed to download the books due to licensing restrictions, but don’t let that stop you contributing: click HERE to find out more.
