Sticking with the vaguely spooky theme in vogue at this time of year, here’s an early advert for the Phantom Stranger revival. The Stranger originally had his own series in the early 1950s, but was brought back as a feature in Showcase in the late-60s. This basically took the form of a brief framing sequence surrounding reprinted material. Eventually, shortly after graduating to his own title, the Stranger inherited Jim Aparo as artist on a series of great new tales.

The book eventually lasted a very respectable 41 issues, the majority of which feature beautiful art by the aforementioned Aparo, or Neal Adams, or Nestor Redondo, or Gerry Talaoc. A veritable treasure trove of artistic talent. Fabulous covers too.

Art by Neal Adams.
